Meet the Families Behind Temecula Valley Wine Country
In celebration of Family Winemakers Month, meet the founders, farmers, winemakers and next-generation leaders whose families have helped shape Temecula Valley Wine Country.
Family-owned wineries come in many forms. Some begin with vineyards passed from one generation to the next. Others start with a first-generation leap of faith, a parcel of land, and an idea of what a winery could become.
Across Temecula Valley, these stories are still unfolding. Founders remain involved decades after planting their first vines. Children and grandchildren are stepping into winemaking, farming, hospitality, and leadership roles. Husbands, wives, and siblings work alongside one another, often wearing several hats in the course of a single day.
In recognition of Family Winemakers Month, we’re introducing some of the families behind Temecula Valley Wine Country — and the experiences that best reflect what they have built together.
AKASH WINERY
Founded: The Patel family purchased the property in 2010 and opened the tasting room in 2018.

Meet the Family
Akash Winery began as the vision of Ray Patel, who purchased land on Calle Contento with his wife, Nalini, and their son, Akash. Today, Akash Patel manages the winery’s day-to-day operations, while Ray continues to lend his business expertise. Akash’s wife, Elena Patel, serves as social media director. The family also continues to honor Nalini, whose warmth and generosity remain central to the winery’s identity.
On Family
“Our family story is pretty much the American dream personified. My parents built successful hospitality businesses with little more than sheer moxie and the support of friends. Because they started with very little, they understood the value of hard work and building community. My mom was an incredibly kind, humanistic person, and it was very important to her that every guest felt like family.”
